Alex surprised Sheila when he popped the question. So Sheila decided to surprise Alex at the wedding.

Ontario meets texas

Alex met Maria during his time on the cruise ship and they have stayed close over the years. We were so excited for them to come down from Canada to explore Texas and Louisiana, but then COVID hit. Due to the closed borders, we accepted that they wouldn’t be able to attend. But then a week or two before the wedding, Maria reached out to Sheila and said they could come! Sheila and Maria secretly coordinated the reveal and they surprised Alex at the Broken Spoke on Thursday night. It was the first time Sheila met Maria and Claudio!

A Lil’ Louisiana in Austin

Alex loves crawfish! When we originally had our wedding in March, there was a small chance we could have some during the wedding weekend. But when it was moved to September, crawfish was no longer in season. So Sheila commissioned a crawfish cake from a local bakery in Austin! Both families maneuvered around Alex so that he wouldn’t see the cake while setting up the boat which allowed Alex to be properly shocked when he finally saw it. Sheila is allergic to shellfish, so this is the only “pot of crawfish” we can safely share together!

A new family heirloom

Alex grew up playing croquet with his family. Throughout the pandemic, Alex kept looking for a set but most sets built nowadays are of poor quality and vintage sets need restoration. So Sheila commissioned her brother, whose hobby is woodworking, to build a sturdy set and it was waiting for Alex in the Groom’s Room. We got to play with it during the brunch and it brought both families together.

In addition to special treats for Alex, Sheila snuck in a few EASTER EGGS >
